Pete Pinnell made his living as a potter for twelve years before moving to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1995, where he is currently Professor of Art and Art History. In addition to his teaching, he has continued to exhibit widely, with over 150 exhibitions since 1995. His work has appeared throughout the US, as well as the Netherlands, South Africa, Japan, China, New Zealand, and Australia and in numerous books and journals. He is a regular columnist for Clay Times.
Regarding his work, he states "As a ceramic artist, I am equally intrigued with the visual, tactile, and experimential aspects of pottery. In contrast with conventional wisdom in the Art world, I don't see utility as an impediment to creativity. Rather, I see utility as a gateway to experimental aesthestics, a powerful and underutilized means of aesthetic communication."
