Background:The Strictly Functional Pottery National is a juried exhibition of some of the finest examples of functional pottery currently produced in the United States. Each year, the national call for entries attracts work from America's most prominent and established potters, as well as from emerging artists. The art of working in clay to make pieces that can be in daily use is represented through the varied use of clay types, forms, methods of making the work, glazing and surface decoration, and firing techniques. The opportunity to exhibit pottery in this show is highly competitive and determined by an expert juror. This year's juror, Linda Arbuckle, is an internationally recognized potter and University of Florida Professor of Art. Arbuckle selected 104 pieces for the exhibition from over 1,000 entries representing almost every American state. About About Linda Arbuckle: Linda Arbuckle is Professor of Ceramics at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Her majolica-glazed earthenware is her way of bringing people into personal contact with an art object in daily life. She says "My work is concerned primarily with the tradition and interpretation of the functional vessel." She has been an Artist-in-Residence in Wales and the People's Republic of China. She has given many lectures and workshops, and had her work in many publications. Linda will present a slide and gallery talk at the preview opening on April 18, 2008.
